Hi Mike,
Once IDEA starts it works like charm. I’m just surprised that every time it starts it scans the whole project area (and even jdk?).

Eclipse does startup scans too for the plugins, but that’s only part of the “splash sequence”. IDEA does this whenever I open a project after the program is loaded. I can’t imagine how long it will take when I open a very large project. (IDEA people may have thought about this and show me “hints” to read during loading to kill the time:)

Hi Andrew,
Yes, I agree. Hackers love new techs regardless of tooling support. And that’s fun - the chanllenge with bare hands. But once RoR gets more exposure and interests in the field, nice tools emerge and keep coming.
So I’d like to argue that great tools is the result of a technology’s success, and hence an indicator of its successfulness.

It creates cache files the first time you open a project. Did it behave slowly after subsequent opens? I find that its startup time is only a little slower than Eclipse.
